bath & body gift ideas

Mom and I went to the mall on Wednesday and I saw a few things at the Philosophy counter that I really enjoyed. The Melting Marshmallow Body Souffle smells and looks like marshmallow fluff, but it is body lotion! Anyone who know me, knows that I love S’mores…. It has to be mine! …too bad $30 is way too much to spend on 7.5 ounces of body lotion.

Also, I would like to try the Gingerbread Man Salt Scrub. It smoothes your skin and smells yummy. I have finally run out of my Clinique body scrub, so I am in the market… Mom got me the Gingerbread House last year for Christmas. Last year it came with Cinnamon Buns shower gel, the Gingerbread Man Face Scrub and the Sugar Cookie Lip Balm. I loved them all. This year the house comes with the new Gingerbread Man Body Souffle. I searched everywhere for Ginger lotion last year and ended up settling on this.

I saw the little charm soaps in the latest InStyle. They are from Gianna Rose Atelier. I think they are really cute and would make a nice gift, but I have always been skeptical about soaps in cute shapes. It always makes me sad to use them because then you ruin their cuteness. They have soaps shaped like little pigs and scottie dogs, too.

I don’t have the money for any of this stuff, but if i did i would get this sweater and these shoes from J.Crew, and this beautiful suede Gallery Tote from Coach. Don’t even get me started with Anthropologie, I want one of everything from there… oh, and I also need new jeans.

something other than politics

Oct 11th 2004 03:47:00 am

Travis and I went to Thai Place tonight for dinner with our friends, Brandon and Nicole and Mark. It was tasty, but my tricky throat really acted up.

I still really want to get that puppy, but dad says it is stupid and travis says it is not a good idea and it is too expensive. I feel sad about that.

I am sorry to be so depressing, but that is how I feel. I am so stressed about getting all of those stupid school applications in… I don’t even want to do them. Plus, I am stressing about running that half-marathon next Sunday. I also really don’t want to go to work, but oh well. I guess I will survive.

Here is something happy. On my last day at Pottery Barn on Saturday, I bought these two cuties:

We named the squirrel salt holder Squibley. He is really cute!

Also on a happy note, here are a couple of the many reasons why I have the best husband in the world:

- he slices my pickles in really super-thin slices, just how I like them.

- he goes to the grocery store late at night to get me ice cream and/or brownies and/or cookies and/or candies.

- he bought new jeans today that look very nice on him.

- he fixes my website for me.

- he makes me oatmeal and eggs every morning for breakfast! That’s right, every morning!

You can look forward to additions to this list periodically… even if I don’t get the puppy.

I have proof…

Oct 10th 2004 04:22:00 am

George Bush is a greedy, stupid, lazy, selfish liar. I hate him.

Please watch Farenheit 9/11. I just cried through the whole thing. Michael Moore is a wonderful person, I don’t care what anyone says. Go to his website.

The saddest part is that there are good, honest people working hard everyday to do the right thing (like Ralph Nader), people dying for our country… and George Bush is making money off of it all. He is so greedy and selfish.

War is horrible. There are too many mistakes. We have done the wrong thing too many times, I don’t know how we don’t learn from our mistakes. Sending our poorest people to go fight the poorest people in other countries isn’t going to help anything.

It is unbelievable that the people running our country, and making decisions that will cost thousands of peoples their lives, have no concience. I don’t even know how that is possible. It boggles my mind. All they think about is themselves and money.

Anyway, please watch the movie!!! If Gore had been president, 9/11 may have never happened. I believe that. I will do everything in my power to make sure Bush is not re-elected.

news from rachel

Oct 9th 2004 04:58:00 am

Tomorrow is my last day at the Barn. I am a bit sad (because I would really like to buy everything in the store), but I need the extra time to work on my grad school applications. I am really getting close to the deadline on them. My current list of schools is:

- The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (my number one pick!)

- Rhode Island School of Design

- University of Washington (Seattle)

- Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts

- University of California Berkeley

…and I will probably apply to KU, and maybe Portland State University in Oregon, and maybe UC Davis.

What do you think? Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don’t want to apply to a hundred schools, but i want to pick the best ones. It is hard work!

The half-marathon I am supposed to be running in Des Moines is next weekend. I think I am pretty much doomed. I have not been training like I should. My weekends have just been packed. I am hoping to just finish the 13 miles by running and walking. It will be a fun weekend at least. It is Travis’ birthday on Friday and we are going up to Iowa early to visit Tim & Jenn. I am looking forward to that!

I want a puppy! I am trying to convince Travis to let me get one. I want a female, dappled, short-hair, minature dachsund. Like this cutie:

Please, someone go to Oklahoma and pick her up for me! I have to have her or I will explode!

I'm Rachel and this is my website. It is where I write about art, crafts, design, New York City, and generally share probably a little too much about my daily life. Enjoy!
