cute baby overload

Travis and I had Thanksgiving with his family yesterday. It was a fun and relaxing day, plus we got to see the babies Liam and Gabriel. They are both Travis’ second cousins, so that makes them my 2nd cousins once removed, or maybe my 2nd cousins-in-law… I am not sure, but either way, they are so cute!

I am holding Gabriel Bai Fu Li. He is Jen and Elias’ 17-day-old son. He was not due until next week! He is less than 6 lbs! He is so sweet (and so is Jen for letting us all hold him).

If only this was my real life…

I have been playing Sims Unleashed a lot now that Travis has a computer powerful enough to handle it… It is the best computer game ever! Here are some shots from one of my games:

I made these fall leaf cookies this afternoon. That is about all I did…unless you count making the awesomest Sim house in the neighborhood an accomplishment!

uuuuuugh…

Nov 22nd 2004 05:22:00 am

ok, i am just going to get it off my chest… i am thoroughly depressed because i went to a stupid portfolio day for the stupid School of the Art Institute of Chicago on Saturday and it did not go well. travis and i drove all the way to St. Louis for the stupid thing and it was boring, and the room was so hot i thought i was going to die, and the admissions guy in the yellow bow-tie said my paintings lacked basic drawing skills. uuuuuugh!

oh well. i knew that school was out of my league. they are so on-the-edge. my stuff just doesn’t fit in. he showed slides of performace artists with split personalities, and people dressed up as dinosaurs fighting, and a guy video-tapping himself inside a dumpster, and some girl who documents yarn unraveling from the ceiling (and these are the grad students, people!) i don’t think i am ready to commit two years of my life to that kind of thing. i guess i am just not that smart.

to cheer myself up, here is one of my favorite photos. (travis scanned it for me on his new scanner and computer.)

i am sorry if i don’t get into grad school. i don’t want to disappoint everyone. at least they can’t take away my bachelors degree… and they can’t take my soul! grrrrrrrrr!

a little like home…

Nov 9th 2004 01:30:00 am

Travis is gone again tonight studying, so I am home alone and bored….

bathroom_1099962588.jpg

Last week I wanted to do some home improvements so I bought some little shelves at Target for our bathroom. Travis put them up with his new birthday drill. I wanted to have more functional space, but I ended up just loading them with decorations. I do not much like decorations that serve no purpose, so most of this stuff does something:

- The soap is from Anthropologie and it smells good. It is made of goat’s milk, honey, almonds and oats. It washes hands and it is moisturizing… A spare bar is also on the shelf in the flower packaging.

- The little tin has a candle in it that smells like coconut and mango. It is also from Anthropologie. (Anthropologie is right across the street from our apartment.)

- The flower is a tulip from Dan Meiner’s. Travis and I went there after work on Friday for their Holiday Open House. It is the coolest shop – gay guys do the best decorating. A single tulip was all I could afford. If I am ever rich, I want to be one of those people who always have fresh flowers around…. Fresh flowers and candles. I could waste a lot of money on pointless stuff like that. But you should note that our apartment actually does stink, so they serve a valuable purpose in this case.

- The pink vases I already had. They can be used to hold flowers (fresh, of course!), or toothbrushes.

So now with my spruced-up bathroom (I know, Travis probably loves having a pink bathroom!) and my new bedding, I am really happy with our little apartment. I mean, it actually feels like home. Not just because of the bathroom and bed, but everything. I truly like coming home to it. It is comfortable and it makes me feel content…. I just wish Travis was here with me more often….

one free sunday

Travis and I went for our usual walk on the Plaza this morning, and we found the bedding I liked from Pottery Barn on a big sale. Even though I no longer get the discount, he let me get the duvet cover & two shams! I love it… I didn’t want to go floral, but i just like the colors in this bedding. Above is the photo. Do you like it with the silk quilt on the green side or the cream side better? I can’t decide.

All day today Travis was out studying, so I was home alone. I didn’t get much work done (on my grad school apps), but I did make him some pumpkin bread from a mix he picked out at the store (He is so cute!). I baked it in my cute Emile Henry bread pan. We are eating it for dinner.

mom’s 50th birthday!

Nov 7th 2004 07:15:00 pm

momtage_1099855123.jpg

My mom’s 50th birthday is on Tuesday, but yesterday we threw her a little surprise party. Adam, Aaron and Seth all came home from school for it, and Travis’ parents, and our friends Sarah Hansel and Brandon Heavey came. I think she was surprised.

We just had snacks and an ice cream sundae bar and Mom opened her presents, but I had a fun time. It is exciting that it is her 50th birthday. I wanted to do something special. Dad got mom a new iMac for her birthday. It is gorgeous!

Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!
